5 minutes with… Philip Lynch, Head of Fire Safety

What are your main responsibilities?

I manage a group of fire safety professionals and as a team we deliver fire safety fire risk assessments – also referred to as FRA across the industry.

Fire Risk Assessment is the core foundation of any building’s fire safety policy and we’re committed to keeping our customers and their homes and businesses safe through our BAFE quality accredited Fire Risk Assessments.

What is your main objective within this role?

To deliver quality assured Fire Risk Assessments, but most of all to keep people safe.

What jobs did you do prior to joining us? What prepared you for your role here?

I worked for BMW for almost 30 years. I started in Rover Group as a fire fighter, the fire and security manager at several plants and then a UK role for fire and security. Roles included managing a team responsible for security investigations fire safety, information protection, GDPR, crisis management, travel and expat security and contract management.
I worked overseas several times in Germany, China, Israel, Spain and Portugal.

Working at Marlowe Fire & Security feels like a family, where the company genuinely cares for its employees. Marlowe is showing it’s open to change and, in my areas, certainly wants to grow, and I find this really exciting to be part of.

What has been the highlight of your career at Marlowe Fire & Security?

I am new to the role but the highlight so far is the great team I have and work with.

What has been your greatest personal achievement?

Pulling together a new team, bonding and seeing them progress always make me happy.

What makes you most proud of your team/company?

The team I have are professional, and highly qualified, I am most proud of the fact that when we have a problem we all pull together and openly discuss to find a solution. These are normally fire safety legislation issues, and the discussions we have had have been excellent, and most of all everyone contributes. I love this spirit.

Where were you born/where did you grow up?

I was Born in Oxfordshire, I grew up in a south Oxfordshire village where I played football and cricket to follow the footsteps of my great grandfather, Grandfather and father.

Do you have any hidden talents/party pieces?

Both of my daughters can dance – one was a dance teacher and it is said (by me) that they take after their father.

What’s on your bucket list?

Japan

Rome is on my list, I love history, I have been to see the pyramids in Cairo, the acropolis in Athens, and I want to see Rome also.

Who are your fantasy dinner party guests – dead or alive?

Arsene Wenger, The Invincibles, and my Dad.

What are the best things in life?

Family, to listen to the birds, look at the blue sky, warm sunshine, with your family next to you.
